Baynum

 James and Catherine Baynum came from the Eastern Shores of Maryland. (Worcester Co.). They left Maryland ca. 1820 with their sons Belitha Taylor Baynum, Josiah Davis Baynum, and daughters Charlaitty Baynum and Catron Z. Baynum.

Also with them were James nephews, James and William. Both these boys were sons of James' deceased brother William.
The younger James settled in Augusta, Ky. (Bracken Co.). Nephew William stayed in the Wesley Chapel & Ivor area with elder James and his family.

Charlaitty & Catron Z. both married Fossetts. (Also both brothers). William Fossett and David W. Fossett. (Fossitt)

Catron Z. would die in the 1849 Cholera epidemic that struck hard in this area. Cholera would also take at least 3 of Charlaitty's children and also their mother-in-law, Mary Fossit. The Fossett boy's mother. Mary Fossit was married to William Fossit.

Notice the spellings! Fossett is on Pendleton & Campbell Cos records early but would change thru the years. Fossit is on William Sr. & Mary's gravestones. Fosit is used on William Sr's military records. Charlaitty is used on James Baynum's will but she is listed as Charlotty on her stone.
She is found as "Lotty" in Fossett records in Pendleton Co. Baynum,Bainam, and Baynham are all three spellings used on the same document for James Baynum. (His Will). Yes all three. Bainum is used in Clermont Co,Ohio for James Baynum's cousins. Most people in those days could not read or write and left the spellings up to the county clerk or church scriber.To this day, Fossett, Fossitt, Fossit and Baynum, Baynham, Bainum are all sprinkled in the N.Ky. and Cincinnati area. Most (not all) but most of the people with these names in this area sprang from the above 2 families.

 James Locky Baynum (son of Josiah Davis Baynum and Levina Lancaster)²³ was born December 1839 in Ivor, Pendleton County, Kentucky²³, and died Abt. 1925 in New Richmond, Clermont, Ohio²³.

 Josiah Davis Baynum (son of James Baynum and Catharine Taylor Davis)²³ was born March 15, 1810 in Snowhill, Maryland²³, and died November 30, 1887 in Campbell or Pendleton County, Kentucky²³. He married Levina Lancaster on April 10, 1837 in Campbell or Pendleton County, Ky.²³.

James Baynum^{21, 22, 23} was born April 09, 1783 in Snowhill, Worcester County, Maryland²³, and died October 21, 1844²³. He married Catharine Taylor Davis on April 14, 1807 in Worcester County, Maryland²³, daughter of Phillip Davis and Katey Taylor.

This family left Maryland in the spring of 1817. They went to Maysville, Kentucky to Nicholas County about 5 miles from Millersburg and 3 miles from Carlisle on Brush Creek. 1 Year later they moved to Pendleton County near Falmouth for about 3 years. In 1823 they purchased 155 acres on the east fork of 12 mile creek in Campbell County and were living there by 1826 or sooner.

Example: Bartholomew Baynum "heir" of George was "NOT" executed!
Bartholomew's son (Bartholomew "alias Simpson") was the one hanged.


I am looking for anyone who served in Co.L 301st Inf.Regt. 94th Inf.Div. during World War II.

Researching the Baynum family from the Eastern Shores of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Other spellings: Bainum, Baynham, Banum, etc... possibly also Bennum. Records show a Bartholomew as being an "heir" of George Banum. Bartholomew is listed in 1733 Tax Lists. I have info on Bartholomew's line to the present. James Baynum moved to Kentucky ca.1817. He was a grandson of Bartholomew. Extensive research made on this family.

Researching the Fossitt family from Pennsylvania. Other spellings: Fossett, Faucett, Fawcett, etc... possibly also Fassett. William Fossett born in Pa. ca.1770. Found in Ohio early 1800's. Bought property in Kentucky 1836. I have info on William's line to the present. He had several children. Trying to find William's parents. Several lines researched for clues.
